Enjoy in Westminster, CO

One of the bright shining jewels of Colorado and the greater Front Range Urban Corridor, Westminster is a home rule municipality that is located in both Adams and Jefferson counties. It is about 9 miles north-northwest of Denver.

The Homestead Act of 1862 led many to come and settle in what would one day become Westminster, Colorado. Some people from Kentucky emigrated, including the farmer Pleasant DeSpain, who built his home in 1870 on 160 acres near West 76th Avenue and Lowell Street. Many people would follow afterward, leading to a boom in the area, multiple places established that would end up on the National Register of Historic Places, and more.

The city features a huge trail network and open space system, which has led to Big Dry Creek Trail being one of the highlights of this system. It stretches approximately 12 miles from the city’s eastern area to Standley Lake. Other trails include the Farmers’ High Line Canal, Little Dry Creek, and Walnut Creek. This system of preserving open spaces has led to over 3,000 acres being set aside.
