Greeley began as the Union Colony of Colorado, founded in 1869 by Nathan C. Meeker. It was an experimental utopian farming community. It was finally incorporated as a city in 1886, it’s backing of farming and agriculture dovetailing with keeping up with modern technology. Telephones were in the town by 1883, followed by electric lights downtown by 1886.

The area is known as a place of arts and culture. The Greeley Creative District was certified by the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade as an official Creative District featuring art galleries galore.
